A Prayer for Grief Awareness Day

As much as we want to protect our children from sadness and loss, grief is not something reserved just for grown ups.  November 15 is Children’s Grief Awareness Day, a day designated for honoring, assisting, and accompanying grieving children.

Wild Grief, an organization dedicated to community wilderness experiences for grieving children and youth, offers the below practice for anyone of any age in the midst of grief, on this day or on any day.

GO OUTSIDE
Take a full breath
Notice 4 living things
Take a full breath
Notice 3 dead or dying things
Take a full breath
Notice 2 things that are transforming/changing
Take a full breath
Remember one thing you love about the person or thing for which you grieve.
Take a full breath

Close your time of prayer with thanks to God for this moment and for the seasons of death and resurrection in our lives.

We seek to live Christ's love, welcome all people and joyfully serve God.
