Music in a Great Place: Side X Side Percussion Duo — Sept. 29

The two musical sides of the Side x Side Percussion Duo – marimbist and percussionist will offer their unique talents to members of WGPC during both services on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The Duo based in St. Louis was formed by Kurena Yamaguchi and Tim Crockett in 2013.

Kurena is an active marimbist, chamber musician, soloist and educator who has performed throughout Japan, the United States and Europe. In 2012, Kurena received first prize in the duo category with Tomohiro lino at the Yokohama International Music Competition.

Also, an active orchestral musician, chamber musician, soloist and educator, Tim Crockett has performed as a percussionist all over the world. In addition, in 2012, he served as the principal timpanist for the American Wind Symphony Orchestra’s 2012 tour through four states. From 2010-2012, Crockett was a percussionist for the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra in Terre Haute, Indiana and was an associate member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra.

Kurena and Tim, who are married, now each offer private lessons in percussion and marimba.

From classical music to pop, the duo plays the musical styles of all genres. The goal of the Side x Side Percussion Duo is to collaborate with other musicians and composers and to set new standards for performance in the world of percussion and chamber music. Making use of the variety of percussion instruments, the Duo arranges their music to be played with creative and innovative instrument combinations, such as marimba and timpani, marimba and drum set, marimba and snare drum, and more!
