Education & Empowerment

The second of our three key focus areas is Education and Empowerment. Our goal is to help provide a pathway out of poverty for our neighbors near and far, and we feel the best way to do that is to support education and job training programs. For people to have hope for the future, they need to see a pathway forward and a way to support themselves and their families. Our current local partners focusing on this area are Third Presbyterian Church, Epworth Children & Family Services, Presbyterian Children’s Homes & Services, and our church’s Early Childhood Center. In addition we support the PC(USA) Theological Education Fund for seminary scholarships, we provide scholarships for three students at the Nyaka School in Uganda, we support students in Zambia with funds for food and programs through Alliance for Children Everywhere, and we provide scholarships for students in our partner community of Plan Grande 2, Nicaragua. Scholarship Challenge

We are so happy to raise up our members who have faithfully partnered with the community of Plan Grande 2, Nicaragua over the last 18 years! Harriet Hall has coordinated this effort for many years, and we are so grateful for her passion for this partnership. She and her husband, John Hughes, will be traveling to Nicaragua this summer and the Mission Outreach Commission would like to challenge the congregation to see how many $200 scholarships we can fund while Harriet and John are traveling. Now through August 31st the commission will match any donations to the scholarship program with contributions from the Mission Endowment Fund. Let’s see how many students we can help with school this year! Click here to contribute.

We seek to live Christ's love, welcome all people and joyfully serve God.
