Music in a Great Place presents the Dawn Weber Trio

On Sunday, May 19, at 9:30 A.M. WGPC will host special guests the Dawn Weber Trio during our worship service.

Dawn Weber – entertainer, trumpeter, composer, and singer – began expressing her love and talent for music at the young age of 11 when she learned to play the trumpet. The gift became her focus and by the time she was 16, she enrolled in the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, getting on a bus, leaving her home and setting out to become a professional trumpet player.

At NCSA, she studied with Raymond Mase who also taught at Julliard and would fly down once a week to teach. She spent four years studying jazz and classical styles and toured all over the eastern side of the United States playing in prestigious places such as Carnegie Hall!

Following graduation, she went on to study at the conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music where Michael Sachs, the principal trumpet player of The Cleveland Orchestra, became her instructor. She also studied jazz privately with Marshall Griffith.

After college, competitions filled her life, and she took second place at the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition.  In 2000, she was selected 1 of 5 from the world to compete in Bad Sackingen, Germany for the Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Competition.

Moving to the St. Louis area in 1998 she played for Susan Slaughter and before long was getting to play as an extra and a sub with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Dawn plays/sings with an eclectic mix of groups including  Vargas Swing, Urban Jazz Naturals and the Electro Funk Assembly.  The Dawn Weber Trio is a smaller and lighter version of everything that Dawn does.  The song list covers everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Hendrix.  There is something for everyone on the set for jazz lovers, to blues lover, to rock lovers.

On Sunday, May 19, however, Dawn and members of the Dawn Weber Trio will share their sacred side at Webster Groves Presbyterian.  Join us!

We seek to live Christ's love, welcome all people and joyfully serve God.
